Kids 'n what? Kids 'n Water. It's water. And kids. All dressed up. Good for a laugh or two. One day while I was cleaning my tub, my Niece and Nephew ran into the bathroom and jumped in; fully clothed, of course! I took some snapshots, 'cause who could pass up that opportunity? Later, they were begging me to do it again, so I thought it would be fun to plan a formal shoot. I dressed them up in their Sunday best; tights, shoes and all, did up their hair, and took them to the local swimming pool. What a blast! They loved it, and I've been doing it ever since. In 1998 I threw up my first website and decided to put some of those first pictures on it. Next thing I knew, people were emailing me telling me how great the pictures were, how I had captured what childhood feels like, and wanting to see more. So after awhile, I grabbed the domain "kidsnwater.com" and put up the Kids 'n Water website, devoted solely to these photos. It took off like wildfire; I had fans and was constantly answering email. I even forged a few good friendships! Who knew? Over time the photography, like the website, evolved as I learned the skills of a professional portrait artist. The site continued to grow until it was getting almost 40,000 hits per month. A publishing company even caught wind of it and was considering using the photos for a coffee table book. The site was up until 2005, when, with 2 kids and new priorities, I took it down. During the seven years it was up, it logged about 1.5 million visits. It truly was a unique website; I never found another one like it. Kids 'n Water still holds a soft spot for me. The Kids 'n Water Mission Statement:
So go enjoy the photos, and if you're interested, I still do Kids 'n Water sessions. I've even been known to pay a small wage for models, so who knows, you might even make a few bucks. If you'd like to give it a try, send me an email. The sessions are free of charge, and you get to keep a CD with all the photos. |
